Punk’ins for the Park fundraser
Sk828 Franklin and Altered Frequencies are bringing a night of fright to the Halloween scene this year.
Punk’ins for the Park, a haunted carnival and punk festival will kick off at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 and continue through 2 a.m. Sunday. The event is a fundraiser for con- struction of a skatepark in Franklin. Hosted at Altered Frequencies, the festival will boast a lineup of live bands and DJs from across the southeast. Carnival oddities and sideshow acts will feature fire dancers, wrestlers and more. Family-friendly activities include games, a skate jam, raffles, and a silent auction.
Bring your own decorated pumpkin and don your best carnival-themed costumes for the chance to win a number of prizes donated by local businesses or bid on one-of-a-kind pieces from various artists.
Judging for the kid’s costume contest will begin at 7:45 p.m. followed by the adult cos- tume and pumpkin decorating contests at 9:45 p.m. The top three finalists in each category have the chance to win $100 cash, Altered Frequencies gift certificates, The Franklin Factory gift cards or candy buckets.
A $5 donation is suggested upon entry to the venue. All games, raffles and auctions are pay to play, ranging from $1-$3 per entry. Sk828 will also host a hot dog benefit dinner. All money raised during the event will go toward the construction of a 6,000-square-foot concrete skatepark. The estimated cost for the project is $260,000-$280,000.
“We’re doing whatever we can to get this skatepark built,” said Tim Shaw of Sk828. “Our goal is to raise over $10,000, and if we reach that goal the great folks of Hot Spot convenience stores have pledged to match our $10,000. We have the potential to raise over $20,000 at this one-day event.”
Altered Frequencies is located at 110 Carolina Drive. If you are interested in volunteering or donating to Punk’ins for the Park, contact Sk828 on Facebook. You can donate directly to the group’s GoFundMe at “Franklin Skate Park Project” organized by Tim Shaw.
